Student Description
My photographic inspiration comes from natural and human-made environments; i work mainly, but not exclusively, in the landscape and still-life genres. I'm currently taking a break from study, intending to travel, earn money and make new photographic work. To see more of my work, visit http://www.myspace.com/kcmphoto
Looking is a human experience. Looking can be random, vague or a deliberate, selective and discriminating act. We seek, we observe, we absorb information through our looking.
Photography is about looking. When we photograph, we crystalise our looking experience. Presenting our looking to others can be a personal experience; we say 'This is what I saw'.
As an artist, I aim to intensify my looking. My aim is to to transcend the 'pretty picture', to express a personal vision through my photography.
I realise my photography with a medium format camera, attached to a tripod. During my studies I specialised in monochrome photography and silver-gelatin printmaking. I have continued my monochrome work and am also exploring colour photography. Film continues to be my chosen photographic medium. Currently without a darkroom, I scan my negatives and transparencies to produce 25 - 50 MB master files.
